What
we did
Sounds Rights was the first free training programme entirely dedicated to those who organise live music: live clubs, festivals, concert series and cultural venues.
Promoted by Note Legali and developed in collaboration with KeepOn LIVE, the project was co-funded by the European programme LIVEMX (Creative Europe), with the aim of strengthening the skills of a sector that is central to the music ecosystem, yet often lacking adequate operational tools.
The programme ran between 2025 and 2026 and included:
- 13 training sessions, combining live online classes and in-person meetings
- 3 in-person events, hosted within key industry contexts, including KeepOn Live Festival in Palermo and Linecheck in Milan
- A programme built around essential, real-world topics:
- copyright and related rights
- collective management
- organisations and licensing
- contracts
- ticketing
- taxation and social security for live events
The course was designed based on the direct experience of Note Legali: years of legal assistance and consultancy for music professionals clearly highlighted a key need — to work better, not just more.
Sounds Rights translated this need into practical, accessible and immediately applicable tools.
A key element of the project was continuous exchange: each session was also a space for discussion, where participants could bring real cases, operational doubts and everyday challenges.
Pathway
Results
Sounds Rights engaged a broad and diverse network of live music professionals, generating a concrete impact both at a professional and systemic level.
Project figures:
- 30 organisations and venues involved (live clubs, festivals, associations)
- Over 40 professionals trained
- 13 sessions delivered
- Dozens of hours of specialised training
However, the most meaningful results go beyond the numbers.
Stronger skills, more informed decisions
Participants gained tools to approach more confidently and effectively:
- rights management
- contractual relationships
- tax and social security compliance
- sustainable event organisation
This translates into fewer errors, reduced risks and greater continuity for live activities.
An impact also for artists
Training those who organise live music also improves working conditions for those who perform it:
a more aware and competent system is a fairer system.
A guide for participants
Among the project’s main outputs:
- a comprehensive digital guide, designed for participants, collecting content, operational tools and best practices
- learning materials and resources shared throughout the programme
A community that continues
Sounds Rights fostered connections between professionals from different contexts, encouraging exchange and helping build an active professional network.
A European perspective
Although developed in Italy, the project was conceived from the outset with a broader vision: contributing to bridging a widespread skills gap in the live music sector at a European level.
Sounds Rights officially concluded on 31 March 2026, but the work continues.
The skills developed, the relationships built and the materials produced provide a solid foundation to keep working towards a clear goal:
making the live music sector more aware, sustainable and professional.
